There are quite a few ways to reach Hua Hin from Bangkok for those who will come to the venue by themselves.
It takes about 3 hours from Bangkok. The price depends on the company and size of the car, but average will be 2,500-3,000 THB. When taking a meter taxi, it is recommended to negotiate the price beforehand.
Air-conditioned buses leaves the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok every 30 minutes between 5:00 am and 22:00 pm for Hua Hin. It takes about 3 hours and costs about 149 THB (about 3 USD as of Oct, 2005). The bus is arriving at the bus terminal on Srasong Rd, which is a walking distance to down town Hua Hin. (map)
Mini-bus with 10 seats leaves in front of Rachawithee Hospital at Victory Monument for Hua Hin every 2-30 minutes. It directly goes to Hua Hin and faster than bus. It takes about 2.5 hours and the price is 190 THB (as of October, 2005). This is very convenient but local with all the signs written in Thai. If you are not familiar with Thailand, this service is not recommended.
Several trains leave from/to Bangkok to/from Hua Hin daily, stopping on their way to the South. It takes about 4-4.5 hours and costs about 400 baht, depending on the coach.
The private Cessna flight is provided by SGA. There are 4 flights between Bangkok and Hua Hin daily and the total traveling time is approximately 1 hour (flight duration is about 40 minutes). Hua Hin is small enough to walk around for a couple of hours without taking any vehicle (see the map). Most hotels in down town stand no more than few minutes walk to the beach, the market or major restaurants. But making your trip easier, there are Son-teaw, Tuk Tuk, bike taxi and taxi available in down town Hua Hin.
This is a pick-up truck type of transportation, which commutes between Hua Hin airport and Khao Takiab (royal summer palace) every 20 minutes. Reach out the hand to catch the song-taew on the street, and just let the driver know when the vehicle comes by the spot where you want to get off. The price differs, depending the distance, but average is between 8-10 THB.
This is the most practical transportation for the tourists. There is the waiting spot in front of the clock tower in down town, or catch the one cruising on the streets. It is necessary to negotiate the price beforehand. The standard price within town is about 100 THB.
There are many bike taxies waiting for the customers at every corner in down town. It is necessary to negotiate the price beforehand, and the price ranging from 30 THB depending on the distance.
There are no meter taxis available in Hua Hin. It is necessary to negotiate the price with the drivers before taking it. If renting a taxi for a day, it costs about 800-1300 THB per car.
