Genenral Information on Hua Hin/Cha-am

Located approximately 190km south of Bangkok, and setting on the west cost of the Gulf of Thailand, Hua Hin is the renowned and most traditional Thai resort, which is also famous for holding the king's summer palace. Hua Hin is a cozy small fish town with a population of 60,000 and the town possesses a tropical climate, having one of the lowest rain falls in Thailand. It also gets the lovely sea breeze as being a coastal town.

Cha-am is another small fish town, situated 17km north of Hua Hin. Though these two towns are geographically and administratively separated each other, they are often seen as one area, since they are connected by all the resort hotels and guesthouses along the beach.

While the beaches of Phuket and Samui were discovered only recently, Hua Hin was discovered in the early 1920s by King Rama VII. Unlike other beach resorts which have undergone rapid and sometimes destructive development, Hua Hin has reserved its cozy and tranquil atmosphere as a royal resort. Hua Hin is also the core center of development project initiated by the royal family. There are some institutes to develop the varieties of agricultural crops or soil fertility around the area. There is a key station of distant learning using the satellite communication. Not like other beach resorts which are popular only among the foreigners, Hua Hin attracts all sorts of visitors including Thais and international tourists.
