AI3 Network: Satellite Based Network Testbed in Asia

The testbed consists of satellite systems (C-band point-to-point links: Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Nepal). Bandwidth for the satellite links are basically 1.5 Mbps for transmissions from Japan to the other countries and 512 Kbps from the South East Asian countries to Japan, except 128kbps/128kbps link between AIT, Thailand and TU, Nepal which was established in 2005 and 512kbps/128kbps link between ITB, Indonesia and UNIBRAW, Indonesia

In addition to the satellite bi-direcitonal links described earlier, UDL (Uni-Directional Link) is in operation. The UDL bandwidth is now 9 Mbps. The feed station is hosted in Keio Univ., Japan. Many receive-only stations are in operation in the Asian countries. This infrastructure has been actively utilized as a higher education distance-learning environment called SOI-ASIA.
